PEX and copper are both commonly used for water supply lines. PEX can be a good option because it’s flexible and resistant to some of the corrosion issues that can affect copper over time. Copper is also a proven option and is still widely used in residential plumbing. When it comes to faucets and other fixtures, quality matters too. Solid brass valves and fittings generally hold up better over time than lower-cost alternatives.

Start by figuring out whether the problem is happening at one fixture or throughout the house. If one faucet or shower has low pressure while everything else seems fine, something as simple as a clogged aerator or showerhead could be the culprit. If you’re noticing low pressure throughout your home, the problem may be farther upstream, such as a pressure regulator or water supply issue. Having your plumbing checked every couple of years is a good rule of thumb, especially if your home has older fixtures or supply lines. That said, you don’t need to wait for an inspection if something seems off. Slow drains, dripping faucets, running toilets, or water stains underneath a sink are all good reasons to have someone take a look sooner.
