Pipes & General Plumbing
Plumbing problems have a way of disrupting your day pretty quickly. Maybe it’s a faucet that won’t stop dripping, a drain that’s moving slower than usual, or a water heater that suddenly decides it’s done making hot water. Whatever’s going on, R.A. Hoy’s licensed plumbers are here to help homeowners throughout the Outer Banks. We handle everyday plumbing repairs along with larger projects like water heater replacements, sump pump installations, gas lines, and repiping. Our approach is pretty simple: figure out what’s actually causing the problem first, then explain what it’ll take to fix it. If something can be repaired, we’ll tell you. And if replacement makes more sense, we’ll walk you through why and help you understand your options.

Plumbing Inspection & Repair
Not every plumbing problem calls for replacing something. Our plumbers can diagnose leaking fixtures, slow drains, water heater problems, low water pressure, and other common issues. We’ll take the time to find the source of the problem before recommending a repair. That way, you’re fixing what actually needs attention instead of spending money replacing something that still has plenty of life left.
Plumbing Installation
Sometimes you need more than a repair. Whether you’re upgrading a fixture or adding new equipment to your home, we can handle the plumbing installation from start to finish. R.A. Hoy installs fixtures, tank and tankless water heaters, sump pumps, gas lines, and other plumbing equipment. We’ll look at your home’s existing plumbing and make sure whatever we’re installing is a good fit for your setup. If you’re considering a switch to a tankless water heater, we can help you compare options and decide whether the change makes sense for your household.
Repiping Services
If you’re dealing with one leak after another, the problem may be bigger than a single section of pipe. Older or corroded plumbing can lead to low water pressure, discolored water, and recurring leaks. We’ll look at the age and condition of your pipes and help determine whether repairing one section makes sense or if it’s time to consider repiping more of the system. We’re not going to recommend replacing every pipe in the house if a smaller repair will do the job. We’ll explain what we find and help you make the call.

FAQs
What plumbing problems come up most often in Outer Banks homes?
Water heater problems, slow or clogged drains, leaking fixtures, and aging supply lines are all common reasons homeowners call us. Older homes can also start seeing issues with corrosion, water pressure, or recurring leaks as plumbing materials age. If you’re noticing a pattern of small problems throughout the house, it may be worth having the larger plumbing system checked.
How often should I have my home's plumbing inspected?
Every one to two years is a good general guideline, especially as your home gets older. That said, you don’t need to wait for a scheduled inspection if you’re noticing changes. Slow drains, low water pressure, discolored water, unexplained increases in your water bill, or signs of moisture are all good reasons to have a plumber take a look. If your home is more than 20 years old and still has its original supply lines, more frequent inspections may also make sense.
Should I repair a leaking pipe or replace the whole line?
It really depends on the condition of the plumbing. One isolated leak in a newer pipe can usually be repaired without touching the rest of the line. But if you’re dealing with recurring leaks, corrosion, or discolored water from older pipes, continuing to make one repair after another may not make sense. We’ll look at the age, material, and overall condition of your plumbing and help you compare the cost of another repair with replacing more of the line.
